ODP v1.0.0 is out!

Hello everyone!

Orbital Defense Program is finally ready!

I managed to stick to my (arbitrary) timeline and complete the game in May. The completed version actually exceeds my expectations. There are, of course, always things to improve, but I think most of the elements I wanted the game to have are included.

The game takes about an hour to complete from start to finish (less than that if you skip reading some texts). It consists of 30 waves of enemies, with the last wave being the boss wave.

I may need to make some patch updates for balancing or if I find any significant bugs. Other than than, as it stands now, I don't plan on making any significant changes in the game any time soon. That said, I do have a lot of ideas for the future, so it's possible that I may add them in eventually.

Here is a rundown of the most significant changes compared to the demo:

Changelog:

  • Added auxillary weapons (as modules)
  • Added more modules
  • Added Final Boss fight
  • New priority system
  • New upgrade system (and new upgrades)
  • Significantly improved the events system, and also added randomized elements
  • Changed how Earth HP works
  • Various UI and QoL changes
  • Various Balance changes

I felt that the old priority system needed a lot of micro-mangement, so I changed it into pre-made priorities that the player needs to choose from. I also added auxiliary weapons, which are essentially secondary cannons. Those changes make it more like a tower-defense game.

Although strictly speaking it is not a roguelite, the randomized events make it feel like one, and no two runs will be exactly the same (even though I realise that they may be similar).

Lastly, the new upgrade system is a simple tree-based system, similar to the ones that you find at an RPG.

Much of my time was spent on balancing all of this, in order to be very fun and not too hard. Thankfully, my friends and my wife helped me with playtesting. Although you can still find some imbalanced things, I believe now it is at an acceptable level.

Overall, it has been a great experience creating a game. I have learned a lot of things and had great fun!

I wanted to thank all of you that have already played the demo and gave me feedback. It has been extremely helpful.

I hope that you have fun playing my game and I am always open to more feedback and suggestions on my Twitter, or in the designated feedback form.

Thank you for reading!
