Orbital Defense Program is a tower defense game with roguelite elements.

You play as the Commander of the ODP, and your objective is to protect the earth against an alien invasion, by allocating resources to upgrade the functions of the ODP, making strategic decisions and executing some actions in real time. The main means of defense is the Orbital Cannon, which fires automatically at aliens, but there are more ways to defend which are gradually unlocked.

The game features:

  • 30 waves.
  • 5 alien enemies and 1 Boss
  • 12 Unique events (and many more random variations)
  • 16 available modules
  • 15 available upgrades

The composition of the waves, number of aliens and some of the events are randomised for each run.

The game takes about an hour to complete from start to end, on normal pacing.

The controls are simple. Mouse clicks for almost all interactions with the game.

Shortcuts:

  • The Q W E R S D keys (on QWERTY keyboard) for executing Real Time actions
  • Space key for Starting the next wave
  • Esc key for pausing

It is highly recommended to use the Full-screen button at bottom right for a better experience.

I liked it. I may had two levels: normal one and harder one.

This game would be perfect if it didn't stop crashing for no reason, it's happened like 3 times now and i have no idea why. Very annoying

That's kinda weird, idk why that's happening to you, for me it works fine. There's also the armor games version if you wanna use it.

Nice, I beat the game again! :)

I played this game on Armor Games as Solas128, and I love this game. Favorite Tower Defense game definitely :)

actually great tower deafense

Very fun game. Quite easy, beat it first try, ending the game with full HP, but a fun experience anyways.

The napalm is so good at destroying hordes, and my 8 aux cannons were able to clean up.

I think there may be too many bombs given for napalm. I could just use them all any time I felt the slightest bit threatened, and clean up the entire problem.

Also, maybe something telling you when you get a special event, because I couldn't really feel if the two event-boosting upgrades were doing anything, since I couldn't tell the difference between a regular event, a good event, or a special event.

(+2)

The special events are clearly flagged with "your investment in R&D is paying off commander", and they give you 1) either shield recharge or emp shield destruction 2) Stimulants (damage reduction) or supercharge (boost move and attack speed) 3) Recharge (completely refill all charges of everything 1/wave) or Aux Boost (10 damage to all aux cannons, including frost/fire).  I agree about the percent chance for improved options, though.  I assume it's what determines e.g. 10% v.s. 5% bonii and the same for +30 v.s. +40 credits but I'm not sure.

Napalm is indeed awesome.

Oops, I kinda just skim the event messages so that's my bad.

Oh man, it's so nice to play a good, old-school tower defense game. Excellent work.

Very good game, but hard for me :)

Nice game!

I absolutely love this game, but the one issue is that there isn't anything that persists after the game ends (I.e, you get two canons to start with instead of one after completing the game).

(+3)(-3)

Awesome game. I liked that there were NOT any roguelite elements (at least one progression element that persists after failure). Keep the roguelite out, IMO.

Thanks!

So you are saying you don't like meta-progression, I understand that, I'm not a huge fan of it either. Glad you liked it!

(+2)(-1)

Haven't heard of meta-progression. From what I found on google (https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedesign/comments/10acmtw/what_is_metaprogression_in_...), forms of meta-progression are great since they can include learning a game and getting better at it purely through skill.

(+1)

Meta-progression is something like earning coins in game, and when you finish (lose/win), you can spend those coins to get upgrades for your next games. ie. more starting health, damage, attack speed, more cannons, extra upgrades, etc.

0.2.0 feels like a really enjoyable experience now. looking forward to the full release. :)
